IRONY PLUS

Most of us have gone out to eat and had a meal that has stuck with us over the years. I have had many memorable meals but the one that sticks out was a rack of lamb i had years ago in San Antonio,Tx. at a restuarant on the river walk called The Fig Tree. Cooked to perfection, with a hint rosemary, thyme, garlic and olive oil. Sprinkled with a little lemon, it was a taste i will never forget.
I dont know if the restuarant is still there, but it will stay in my mind for ever.
What was your most memorable meal?

Give us the recipe for the sauce...and what is it good on. sounds like it would be great with pork or fish.

A meal that sticks with me more than any was memorable not only for what I ate, but for where I ate it. I would do this occasionally during my mountain man period, and I worked it into a novel I'm working on about that experience:
"...Besides, he always caught plenty of trout with his surface offerings and often landed a legal one of sixteen inches or more. Usually he released all trout, but occasionally he feasted on one of the big fish, and when he did, he made a sort of ritual out of it, preparing it on the gravel bar banks of the North Fork close to where it was caught.
He gathered drift wood to make a fire. After cleaning the trout, he sprinkled salt and pepper inside and out. From a cooler in the back of his Toyota, he placed a few strips of bacon, some slices of tomato and a few pats of butter in the cavity, wrapped it heavily in foil and baked it over an open fire for thirty minutes or so, turning it often.
One of the few things he often missed about city life was the restaurants, but never had he tasted anything better than this. He would cut open the foil and fork the flaky meat straight from the combined juices. Sitting cross-legged on the gravel, he would savor every bite as he watched the aquatic insects gathering and swirling over the river in the slanting and softening rays of evening. At twilight, trout would feed heavily on the mating midges, while whiffs of fog lifted from the frigid flow. Time and water rolled along at their own pace, and he was a integral part of the natural scheme of life. This was his religion.

I've had too many excellent meals in many places, but the one that sticks out the most was in a fancy Chinese restaurant in Osaka. The dancing Shrimp and the shredded fish (I have no idea what kind) appetizer were unique to my experiences. The meal was really a buffet on a large lazy susan in the middle of a table seating 8, with a variety of dim sum, rice dishes, and a whole lot more. It would have been impossible to taset everything. Of course, all the saki you could drink.
