This Occurence with the Spirit World, was one experienced by My Sister Madeline, not Long after my Mother's death. My Brother Joe, and I were 8 and 9 years old as I recall.
There were four of us children still at home at this time, My sister Teresa, (who was Retarded) Teresa was totally dependent on adult care, and could not converse well, as she had the mind of maybe a 3 or four year old. My Sister Madeline was the older of us about 15 or 16 at the time. I Was nine and my brother Joe was eight.
After My Mother passed away due to a Stroke, My father was working long days, and My sister was the one taking care of us younger children. Well It was quite a responsibility for a young teen, But we coped, and continued life's challenges, People in those days, did what they had to do to survive. About 3 or 4 months after our mothers death, we all had retired to bed, and in the middle of the Night, There was a terrible Screaming coming from My Sister Madeline's Bedroom!
Since most of us young kids at the time were used to having nightmares and bad dreams with the hardship of the times, We werent sure if we were dreaming and was just another nightmare scream.
We all Went running to her bedroom My Sister Madeline was standing at the door of her bedroom, and Teresa was sitting up in bed (She slept in same room), and My sister was standing there shaking all over, and as White as a Sheet! My Father asked her what is wrong what happened?
She was hysterical, crying and saying over and Over, Its Momma, Its Momma, and Teddy, (Our old Dog), and My father Calmly talked softly to her, to calm her down so she could talk and explain what happened.
My Father Seemed to sense what was coming, Like he knew this could happen. (He Believed very much in the Spirit world) As he claimed to see his father all the time standing in his room looking at him not saying anything just staring.
Well after a while, when my sister calmed down, She told this story of what she saw.
"It was Momma! She was standing at the foot of my bed, and with her was Teddy, a Dog, who was very old around 16 years! My Mother loved this dog. He was her company all day long and slept with her by her bed at night. He Was Always with her. When My Mother Died, That dog the night before she died, kept us awake most of the night Howling. A howl Like you hear a wolf Howl in the night. Domestic Dogs Usually never howl in this manner only when they Sense Death, My father used to say. They know when it is going to occur and soon.
My Father Swears by this. When a pet Dog howls in the night, That strange kind of a howl, sort of a sad howl, Something is going to happen to someone. They are going to Die. My Father Believed this, My grandfather believe this, and I'm Afraid deep down I believe it.
Anyways, My sister continued on, and said She at first thought she was dreaming, But set up in bed, and rubbed her eyes and set straight up staring at the appearance of My Mother and Teddy, standing at the doorway, and my mother looking Sadly, and staring at madeline, and Teresa. Not saying anything, just staring. She described My Mother as beautiful and younger looking in a beautiful robe, not the house dress she used to wear all the time. Teddy the dog was standing beside her Just staring like Our Mom. My sister Jumped out of the bed, and Screamed! My sister When my Father went running, was ghostly white, and Looked at my father and fainted! She swears the feeling in the room was of a cold chilly feeling, but a beautiful smell, like so many flowers. She has never forgot this, but wont talk much about it, and a funny thing is, even though I can't remember a lot of things now at my age, These type of memories are locked forever in the memories of my brain. Its like it was yesterday that things happened.
I always wondered Why does this remain in my memory, and I can't remember important birthdates or other things or even names now of People I knew and grew up with, their names slip my mind now. A very strange thing, the Mind, hard to figure, why does it only file certain occurances in the memory bank. I have more memories of occurances, that also remain, Not really important memories, But they stuck with me all these Years. Mainly I think, Because My mother loved her children, she sacraficed much for us kids, and we missed her so when she left us so soon. She was a kind loving person, and didnt ask for much in Life. Her family seemed to be enough for her. I Miss her today, STILL!
I AM NOT INVENTING THESE STORIES, This Happened to Me or My family, and If You could see their faces when these things occured You would know they saw something. Occurence Number 3 will be upcoming soon. (These happenings are as I remember them)
Note: The Day My Mother passed away, Teddy the Devoted dog, dissapeared. He never was seen again, Until My Sister Madeline saw him with my Mother in her room that one night. My father always said, dogs when they get real old and feel their time is nearly done, will go off into the woods to die, mostly to be alone in silence. We lived in the country, and woods were near by a regular forest at that time!

My Grand Mother thought everyone that lived outside her house were witches..... It was a scary time to go visit her house with my Father.... We wouldnt go often My father would go it alone, but once in a while we boys would make the visit with him and get a good scare!

My arms are full of goose bumps! Thank you for sharing! How scary for a young child to have a grandmother thinking all outside of her house were witches! This is truly an amazing read! Can't wait to read the rest!

Chief, your mum was Irish...was your father Irish, too? Your father's belief about the dog howling reminded me of the stories of banshees, the fairy women who wail outside a house if someone who lives there is going to die.

So sad that you lost your beloved mother when you were such a small lad...and what a burden for your sister Madeline to have to assume. But, as you say, things were different then...and you did what you had to do.

Interesting detail about the dog Teddy...I believe that our pets meet us on the other side. He loved your mother so much, he lost his will to live, preferring to stay by her side on the other side.

Good morning, My Mother was Irish, but My Father was Russian Polish, spoke polish within his side of the family. My Father changed his name before he married. His Real Name was Miaski. He used to get into so many fights and all because of name teasing, that he Changed it To Waterbury as soon as he got old enough. He got the name off of A pocket watch he had, the watch was made in Waterbury Conn. I have cousins named miaski, as his brothers kept the name Miaski, except for one other Brother, named Raymond. He also picked Waterbury along with my father.

My mom died at the age of 86. She had ceased talking. She could no longer walk. But she was not ill. She went to sleep and passed to the spirit world. She was in a nursing home in Maryland in walking distance of my sister's home. My sister visited her every day. My sister called me at 0500 and told me---herein is
the problem. I had viral pneumonia at the time and was deathly
ill. I had co-workers hospitalized with same thing. Highly contageous--and antibiotics have no effect on a virus. So even if
I had been physically able to go to the funeral, I was too contageous to get on a plane and go. (I was in FL at that point in
time.)

And I could not grieve--the slightest tearing up would send me into coughing spasms . Needless to say, this was a very bad time
for me.

On the day of ther death, I was running a fever and had this "fevered dream" (that is what I
thought originally)--I saw my mother--a much younger version of her--walking down this road. The sun was shining brightly, the sky was very blue--the whole scene was beautiful-- and she was smiling and happy and there was someone walking towards her coming from the opposite direction. As that person got closer,
I saw it was my cousin Jerry. He had died suddenly at the age of 50. Mom had Alhzeimers and the decision was made by my sister and I not to tell her of this. So we did not. But there he was in the dream---and they met --and hugged--and my Mom said , "Jerry, What are you doing here?"---And then it was as though someone shut the window--The whole scene was gone, vanished. And I could not even cry. I could not tell my sister
for months--the coughing lasted a long time.

When I finally did tell her--she said it gave her cold chills--
she said when mom was still talking, when she would go visit
her--she always said the same thing---"Junie, what are you doing
here?"

So I no longer think it was a dream--my mom knew I could not come to her, so she came to me briefly and let me glimpse how she was--and that "deam-vision" has been a source of great comfort to me.
