When I bought my laptop it had 512mb RAM. It is a compaq I bought 1/1/2 years ago.
This was my first computer. I decided to upgrade it by buying more memory. The computer capacity is 2G. I wanted to add 1G thinking that by purchasing a 512 memory card that would do it. On opening the computer I found that it had 2-256mb memory cards. The question became should i buy 2-512mb cards to make it 1G or should I just buy a 1G card and use one of the 256mb cards to give me 1.25G.
I was told by someone from another computer group (not on this site)that mixing the memory cards would cause problems with my computer. So I called HP and asked..they said "no problem" mixing the memory cards.
I had the 1G card installed to day and leaving 1-256mb card in the other slot and the computer works just fine and very fast.
Just thought you would like to know in the event you might be thinking about a memory upgrade
