"If men can run the world, why can't they stop wearing neckties? How intelligent is it to start the day by tying a little noose around your neck?"
— Linda Ellerbee
Do you guys wear ties? Did you ever? And what's the deal with the dancing hula girls that light up when you burp?
I used to have to wear them to work. It was the dress code. Most industries have changed, becoming less formal. It's a power thing. And Hula dolls, never had one, never wanted one. But burps are sacred.
At one time I was a neck tie buyer for a chain of stores so I had dozens of ties. When I retired I gave all but 5 or 6 away and I hope I never have to wear one, besides I now can't button the necks on my dress shirts.
Nice qualifier there, JO. Do you think that fooled us? Huh? However, I have been told the same thing. (ahem cough cough).
Which brings me, in a round about way, to Lynaz's comment. How many people can tie a Windsor knot? (You might need this ability for that tying up thing, JO.)
"To tie the Windsor, place the tie around your neck and cross the broad end of the tie in front of the narrow end. Then fold the broad end behind the narrow end and push it up through the inside of the loop around your neck. The left and right sides of the narrow end, and the inside of the loop, now form a triangle. The third and fourth folds should complete one rotation around the outside of the knot. The fifth fold brings the broad end over the top of the knot from the front to the back. The sixth and seventh folds again complete one rotation around the knot. The eighth fold should again bring the broad end up over the top of the knot from behind; push the end down through the loop in front of the knot that you made with the seventh fold, work out any wrinkles, and pull the knot tight. If the tie is unbalanced, untie the knot and try again giving yourself more or less length to work with."
the idea is the necktie was about the only way a man could have some color in his wardrobe at one time...and a full windsor for a broad collar....a half windsor for a narrow one...or a four in hand if you wanna be oldfashioned...
OK first of all, gimme back my scarf. It's not your color. It doesn't go with your eyes. Doesn't go with my eyes, either, but I need it. Never mind what for.
Next, Amond, I thought a four-in-hand was a carriage drawn by two horses.
And LIGuy, you wear a CLIP-ON???? I bet you wear socks with sandals, too, don't you. Or dress shoes, black socks with shorts. Come on, 'fess up.
well you being you....it might be a four-in-hand...but then again it could be more...four horses? you thought i meant...
the four in hand is the semistring tie...look at the old west pictures...like stagecoach...
I went to a catholic school as a boy and our uniforms
were worn with ties.
You could use the clip on up to the 3 rd
grade after that.. it was tying your own nl tie
My father, being a good military man,
showed me early how to tie a winsor knot
I stayed away from ties when I could during my University days but,
In the Clinic I always used one ..
in the ER I enjoyed my pijamas (Scrubs)..
I don't wear ties of any kind. During the summer I don't wear socks and usually go barefoot. I would never wear black socks with shorts. Don't forget I'm a hip New Yorker.
