- How is one’s identity defined? Am I what I look like? I’m told that I am what I eat. What defines “Me”? I have been seen as many things. As a teenager, I was a “Hippy”, and then a “Freak”, but I was also “Just a Teenager”. When I traveled around the country, I was called a Hitchhiker. I landed in Chicago and was “Homeless”. I have been called, at various times, Mechanic, Philosopher, Engineer, Mathematician, Teacher, Husband, Father, and many other titles. Although I carry my race for all to see, it is not the defining trait that it would be for some of other races. All the titles I have ever held, all of the things I have ever done, and all of the thoughts I have ever had, don’t define me (although father and husband come closer than most). I am none of those things, but I am more than the sum of all of them. I am a single dimensionless point in space and time in an infinite universe. I am here, but in a flash I will be gone. I am the apex of all creation, because of all things created; only I am aware of my own ignorance. To paraphrase the Lotus Sutra, I am Buddha, but so are you.
