- 65 yo retired Navy medic, Vietnam vet, former trucker, restaurant owner, etc. Guess I'm a Jack of all trades,and an old fashioned patriot.....I was taught to honor and respect our veterans (6 of my uncles and aunts served in WWII), our flag, our country and even the elected President of these GREAT United States. No country on this planet comes close to providing it's citizens with the opportunities for greatness (or not) and the freedoms that we enjoy. And I'll wave my flag every day that I am allowed to enjoy these freedoms.
I'm interested in meeting fun new people. Recently went through bypass surgery, I guess that qualifies me for soem new "club" LOL, I'm a former smoker (6Yrs+ smoke-free), very familiar with VA health care. LOL I like travelling and cruising. Took the wife 20 years to talk me into it as I didn't think going to sea was all that big a deal, but my ships didn't have swimming pools and casinos and live entertainment, well unless you consider watching a war from 5 miles at sea entertainment.
Looking at my music likes, I like what I grew up with, but got away from rock and roll in the late 60s & 70s when they started adding adjectives like "acid" and "punk" and "heavy metal". Went to country then and still like it, but spend most of my time in the car listening to the oldies station. If you look at my list you'll also notice a military/navy theme. Growing up with all the Memorial Day parades and 4th of July parades, I grew to love Sousa and military marches. One day I was listening to a classical disc and heard the Radetzky March and fell in love with it. It's an Austrian composition and Slovak's are real closely related to Austrians. In fact when my grandfather came to America there really was no country of Slovakia and he listed his country of origin as Austria although it was the Austrio-Hungary Empire at the time. I'm guessing picking Austria was a political leaning type of thing. I added Eternal Father/The Navy Hymn to my playlist for those people who think the Navy Hymn is Anchors Aweigh (the Navy fight song, originally a Naval Academy Class fight song). Did I say I like to dabble in history? Well this wll do till I think of something else worth revealing.

- I'm sitting here on a Monday morning listening to "Remember When" by Alan Jackson wondering what in the hell has gone so wrong in this country. For a long time the price of "essentials" was stable, now the price of milk and bread are astronomical and climbing and everyone says it's the price of oil. (Old Navy saying) Sounds like bullshit to me! The democrats cry that G.W. is all about oil and gas and that's what the war is about.....really now. IIf that was the case, wouldn't the price of gas still be under a dollar? We switched governments from democrat control to republican control because of corruption and what do we get? Republicans are found to be just as crooked as the democrats. God I hope that people don't go all the way back to total democrat control. I think the difference between repubs. and dems is similar to the differences between democracy and communism. I think we need a good balance to maintain sensibility. Getting old is a curse. More and more the young take over and we look at them and say "The country is going to hell in a handbasket!" And our parents said it and their parents said it. We were conned into moving miles from work, etc. by cheap transportation driving big SUVs. Now 9 out of 10 SUV owners are asking themselves why they bought that gas guzzling piece of crap in the first place. I see GM is trying to dump the Hummer. Now there's a vehicle that never should have left the battlefield. And the building industry got so out of hand that if they don''t keep building more and more condos and expensive houses, while good old houses turn into slums, then thousands of people are unemployed........ has anyone figured out that they are building houses faster than the population dictates? Grandparents are raising grandchildren because both parents must work so they can live beyond their means and if they fail, its the governments fault. I think they should go back and ask mommy and daddy why they raised them to be such greedy little b@$!@**s. This has gone way beyond being better off than our parents. Everybody has to go to college and start as CEO and be a millionaire by 25. LOL WAKE UP AMERICA! When everybody is a millionaire milk and bread will cost $100 each! And no one will be any better off, just have more money.
When I think back to the GOOD OLE DAYS, the 40s & 50s, I realize that I did grow up in the best of times. I disliked so much and now i'd give anything to go back to the simpler time when I scraped my knee and ran home to mom to fix it and then she kissed it and made it better and shooed me back out to play. And never thought to sue anyone because I tripped on a crack in the sidewalk or fell off a swing at the park. Now parks are multi-million dollar entertainment complexes. The one I played in is just a vacant lot that the park dept. pays someone to mow because they can't afford the liability insurance. Maybe we need to have fewer lawyers or is it that we just need to go back to accepting responsibility for our own actions? After all if we trip over a crack in the sidewalk, isn't it because we weren't paying attention to where we were walking? And if any blood sucking lawyers read this, don't get irate and rant here.....do us a favor and go buy a gun.....or maybe drive into a bridge abutment or something.
Oh well, time to go take some pills and hope the price of gas will come down a coouple cents......my fixed income is becoming unhinged......the stupidest thing I can think of is that I'm paying $675/mo for 2 cars that sit in the driveway because I can't afford to drive them. What a sucker!

- I grew up on Roanoke Ave. Graduated in '71 seems like a liftime ago now. My dad was on the Austintown police force for many many years. I have been out of the area since '89 when I moved to boston. My Bogie is for Humphrey Bogart how about yours?
